One of the most beloved pre-wedding rituals in the Subcontinent is the Ubtan ceremony. For this ceremony, a turmeric paste is prepared with ingredients including turmeric, rose water, milk, honey, and other natural ingredients. This paste is then applied to the bride’s face and body and is said to bring her a special “bridal glow”, relaxation, and luck. Similar ceremonies take place in Punjabi and Hindu weddings, known as the mayain ceremony and haldi ceremony, respectively. Of course, having a yellow paste put on you by your friends and family is bound to cause laughter and therefore be relaxing, but there is science behind this tradition that gives the bride a healthy glow and eases her anxiety. The key ingredient to all of these ceremonies is turmeric.

Turmeric, a plant native to tropical South Asia, has a history of being used for its antibacterial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps fight acne, heal hyper-pigmentation, and moisturize dry skin. As a result, founder of NŪR Skincare, Anisa Noor, decided to make a soap as a tribute to her tradition. Our Golden Milk and Saffron Soap contains goats milk, turmeric, coconut milk, saffron, and orange blossom oil.

In addition to the wonderful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric, the lactic acid in the various milks help to exfoliate the skin by loosening and removing dead skin cells to smooth and even skin. Saffron is also a powerful anti-inflammatory that relieves redness and irritation. Lastly, the addition of orange blossom oil stimulates cell growth and adds a sweet floral aroma to the soap.

This soap combines powerful, scientifically backed holistic ingredients that have been traditionally used for centuries, making it a powerful remedy for normal to dry skin.
