12-step pre+post care
Thank you for experiencing the NŪR treatment. Your skin has undergone an extensively deep exfoliating and conditioning treatment that may have included a chemical peel. If your treatment did not include a peel, it may still experience dryness, redness, and overall sensitivity and should be treated with gentle care as directed below. Our philosophy is to introduce controlled trauma to the skin so that it is forced to regenerate. While we expect your newly regenerated skin to appear healthy and supple, the process may take from 3-10 days. Here’s what to expect and how to prepare for future treatments :
BEFORE TREATMENT [within 5-7 days prior to treatment]
Do not have another treatment, unless recommended. Avoid any irritants to your skin, including retinoids and retinol, glycolic and salicylic acids, benzoyl peroxide, astringents and vitamin C. No Botox, collagen, or other dermal filler injections for 1-2 weeks prior to a peel. Do not wax. Let your NŪR skincare specialist know if you are taking any prescription medication, such as Accutane. If you are a male, we recommend that you trim all facial hair down to your skin to get the full effect of the treatment. Do not shave the day of your treatment as any chemical peels will exacerbate the irritation from a fresh shave.
For any treatment involving needles, avoid alcohol, aspirin, or blood thinners for at least 48 hours prior to the treatment to avoid excessive bleeding/bruising.
If you have had any other treatments prior to your treatment with us, please inform your practitioner. Your skin needs to be completely healed before we perform any treatment on you
WHAT TO EXPECT AND MANAGING AFTER-CARE (Peels)
After receiving your treatment, you may experience some light flaking in a few localized areas for up to five days and slight redness for one to twelve hours. Although you may not actually “peel” during the first one or two treatments, you will probably experience slight exfoliation and your skin will feel tight and pulled. Your compliance to your pre and post peel instructions will greatly affect the outcome of your treatment. Skin that has been exposed to medical-grade chemical peels needs intense hydration to promote healthy healing and prevent excessive peeling, redness and dryness.
DAY 1 : Your skin may appear a little red today and will continue to get less red as the day continues. Refrain from wearing make-up unless your practitioner has applied an appropriate mineral makeup for you. Wait at least 4 hours prior to washing your face or if you have no makeup on you may go to sleep without cleansing. Use a recommended calming moisturizer.
DAY 2 : Your skin will continue to feel slightly tight to very tight. The top layers of skin are preparing to slough off. By the end of the day your skin may begin to flake, usually starting between your eyes, around your mouth and nose. Sun damaged spots may turn darker prior to peeling. Do not peel the skin. If any area is irritated, your dermatologist or skincare specialist may recommend a hydrocortisone based cream or calming cream. Start your morning/evening skincare routine as instructed by your skincare specialist using a gentle cleanser/moisturizer.
DAY 3 : Your skin will flake, peel and feel tight today. Do not peel the skin at any time. If you were to peel skin that is not ready to come off, you can cause hypo-pigmented scarring. Today, and tomorrow you will probably want to avoid making any social plans. Begin using a strong hydrating cream and use it often throughout the day. You must completely avoid the sun during this time and wear SPF anytime you go outdoors.
DAY 4 : The majority of peeling takes place between days 3 and 4. Continue with cleansing and moisturizing as directed by your NŪR skincare specialist. Some areas will have completely peeled and other areas may have not peeled at all. This is normal.
DAY 5, 6 and 7 : Your skin may be sensitive or tender for a few days. Continue moisturizing and avoid sun exposure for the next two weeks.
DAY 8 : You may resume waxing, tweezing on the eighth day as long as you are no longer peeling. By the end of the second week you should be able to tolerate glycolic, salicylic, vitamin C, and retinol, retinoid products. If you had an advanced peel, you may notice your skin is slightly pink.
WHAT TO EXPECT AND MANAGING AFTER-CARE (Microneedling/Acupuncture)
Do not apply anything to the sites of treatment for 4-6 hours. You may experience redness, dryness, and tightness at the sites where the needles were placed. There may be some bruising or a histamine response (welting). All of this is normal - after 6 hours, continue to moisturize and treat the skin with gentle cleansers and moisturizers. If needed, you can use an ice pack for bruising which will help to heal within the first week. Collagen/elastin growth is expected to continue for upto 4 weeks post-treatment.
GENERAL POST-TREATMENT TIPS
Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat. Use your daily sunscreen protection. Do not pick at or pull on any loosening or exfoliating skin. Do not go to a tanning booth for at least three weeks before or after a treatment. Discontinue the use of Retin-A®/Renova® or Differin® for seven days after treatment. Do not have electrolysis, collagen injections, facial waxing or use depilatories for approximately five days after the treatment. Do not schedule another treatment until your technician advises you to do so. Do not use jacuzzis, steam rooms or saunas.
Do not use loofahs or other means of mechanical exfoliation. Stay cool!
